 Give Us A Chance Shelter

SOS is a not for profit feline (cat) shelter. Our mission is to provide care, food, shelter and medical attention to the stray/feral cats and kittens (The Forgotten Ones) of Lubec and the surrounding area.

The shelter was established April, 2009.We are registered with the State of Maine as a nonprofit corporation. SOS is in the progress of applying for our 501(c)(3) status. All donations made in 2011 are tax
deductible.

Our desire is to continue to provide better housing and care for our stray/feral cats and kittens. We have been using a 10’ x 10’ shed and several rooms in our homes for the care of the cats. With your help, we can expand the shelter and help more cats live the life they deserve.

Read letter of support from the Town Of Lubec to the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation, application for project grant here.

SOS would like to renovate a 24’ x 50’ area on the first floor of our building. This will allow us to have heat, water and additional space for the daily operations of the shelter.

We need your help and are asking for your donation and/or assistance in getting our new shelter up and running. Won't you Give Us a Chance.
Did You Know?

One cat can have at least three litters each year with an average of five kittens per litter. Assuming all those kittens are female, with the possibility of those kittens having at least one litter per year, producing five kittens; that is 90 unwanted kittens per year from a single female cat.

Our shelter provides a TNR (trap-neuter-release) program for stray and feral cats.

SOS Lubec first feral kittens

These first three feral kittens that I started to care for have all been neutered and fed two meals a day at feeding stations in town. One of them was recently re-trapped in order to give veterinarian care. Due to the nature of his illness, the cat required special care for a month and was recently released, again. All are doing fine now. They are five years old at the time of this writing.

This shelter is run entirely on your donations. All donations are tax deductible. Any amount donated, is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!
